YOU MATTER!

You need an attorney, but where do you begin? Phonebook? Family? Radio? Friends? Internet? Television? Neighbors? Good! That’s where you will find Atkinson Petruska Kozma & Hart (APKH). Hundreds of your family, friends and neighbors find us every year to handle their workers’ compensation claims, auto accident and no-fault claims, personal injury and wrongful death claims.

Why does everyone you know come to us for help?  Because we are your friends, family and neighbors, too. We go to the same churches, same football games and same grocery stores. We support your local community because it is OUR community too. At APKH we know the Northern Michigan judicial system. We are close to accident sites and investigate your claims ourselves. We specialize in personal injury cases and we are specialists when it comes to Northern Michigan courts, judges, witnesses, jurors and accident sites. A "down-state" attorney isn't likely going to visit or investigate your Northern Michigan accident scene personally. We do. Because to the attorneys and staff of APKH, YOU MATTER.

An Introduction to 'About Us'

APKH
has been an established law firm in Gaylord since 1969. The partners of the firm are Gene Petruska, Linda Miller Atkinson, Gary Kozma & Elaine Hart.

In May 1989, APKH became the only specialized plaintiff injury law firm in the Eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There are presently four attorneys, an administrator, four legal assistants, two legal secretaries and four support staff to serve our offices in Channing, St. Ignace and Gaylord. We proudly participate in the high school co-op program, employing a junior or senior high school student each school year.

For more about us and a letter to our web visitors, please go to the About APKH link.

Work Hard and Play Hard!

The Partners
The Partners
Linda Atkinson

Outside the office, Linda volunteers as a Hunter Safety Instructor and enjoys gardening, hunting, writing and knitting, among a variety of artistic endeavors.  In the winter, you can find her on the slopes with the National Ski Patrol at Ski Brule in Iron River, Michigan; an excellent breather for balancing her busy practice in wrongful death and catastrophic injury cases.  For 35 years, Legal Education Centers around the United States have invited Linda to speak, train other lawyers and consult on legal and technical issues that affect cases like yours.  For Linda's professional biography, please see the Linda Miller Atkinson link.

You may already know Gene from the Northland Sportsman’s Club or Grayling Sportsman’s Club.  He enjoys shooting competitively, hunting and reloading shells for his own use and that of others.  Gene’s competitive nature translates well into his legal expertise.  He has been practicing law in Northern Michigan for over 30 years, qualifying him as an expert with your court system and your juries.  Gene is the go-to-attorney for auto accidents, no-fault claims and other catastrophic injury cases. For Gene's professional biography, please see the Eugene H. Petruska link.

Gary Kozma

Gary is an active outdoorsman:  Canoeing or kayaking, golfing, camping, hunting, fishing, traveling—he loves it all, especially if it includes one or both of his daughters!  When he’s not at play, Gary is a full-time advocate for injury victims and handles serious injury, negligence, social security and workers’ compensation cases.  A persuasive advocate who has appeared in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, Gary is a formidable partner in assessing the value of your claim and fighting for your rights.  For Gary's professional biography, please see the Gary A Kozma link.

Elaine loves to travel and has an exceptional appreciation for the arts.  She embraces opportunities to visit art shows near and far. When she isn’t traveling, she is completely committed to her clients.   Before she was an attorney, Elaine worked for the Workers’ Compensation Agency and immediately after law school, joined our firm.  She has practiced workers’ compensation almost exclusively for over 20 years.  Anyone would be hard-pressed to find a more knowledgeable workers’ compensation attorney working for injured employees.  For Elaine's professional biography, please go to the Elaine M Hart link.

Wake Up With APKH

Listen for our attorneys on The Point and all Radio Eagle stations in Marquette, Newberry, Gaylord, Escanaba & Ishpeming. We also present Ask the Lawyer in Gaylord on 101.5 and in Newberry on 96.7, hosted by Gaylord Morning Show host, Mike Reling. Our attorneys answer the most frequently asked legal questions of injury victims, telephone inquiries, email inquiries and those asked by our clients.  Do you want your legal questions answered on the air? Send your CONFIDENTIAL inquiry to Ask the Lawyer.  No personal information is ever disclosed and only answers to your questions will be discussed on the air. Note, however, an email inquiry does not constitute an attorney-client relationship.

Workers' Memorial Day

Tuesday, April 28, 2009 was Workers' Memorial Day.  You may have heard Elaine Hart talk about the event on "Ask the Lawyer" on your local Eagle Radio station.  For more information, go to Workers' Memorial Day.

Summer by the Beach

Last summer we welcomed walk-ins on Mondays at our St. Ignace office. Our friends in St. Ignace stopped in to meet us, have their potential claims evaluated, picked up  free Patient Advocate forms and free Power of Attorney forms. Thank you to everyone who visited! We continue, of course, to meet clients in all three of our Northern Michigan offices by appointment. Give us a "no obligation" call to discuss your potential injury claim and let us know if you would like us to keep our "walk-ins welcome policy".
