Ace Bayou Re-announces Recall of Bean Bag Chairs Due to Low Rate of Consumer Response
December 17, 2015

2.2 million Bean Bag Chairs were sold between 1995 and 2013 with zippers that can be opened by young children resulting in two deaths from suffocation of children who have crawled inside. The first recall resulted in only 790 responses for purchasers. A free repair kit is available to consumers and the CPSC and Ace Bayou are concerned about children’s safety if these bean bag chairs are still being used without the repair kit that would make the zippers impossible to be opened by children. The beads inside the bad also create a choking hazard for children and there is one reported incident of a six year old that opened the bag and swallowed some of the beads accidentally. The recalled chairs were sold at a variety of stores, in a variety of sizes, shapes, colors and fabrics, and have “ACE BAYOU CORP” printed on the tag in the chair’s cover seam.
